Help us protect one of our Hamilton County K9 officers.!!!!!!

It is with great pride that Sheltered Paws Dog Rescue can say that one of the dogs that we sponsored became a Hamilton County K9 officer. Ducky was a star pupil during his training. Sheltered Paws thought it would be nice if we could do something to help protect the K9 officers while they are on-duty. We are now raising money so that we can donate a protective vest to the County K9 unit. These dogs put their lives on the line to protect us so it just seems right that we try to give them protection. Please make a donation using the PayPal link or mail a check to the following address. Any amount is welcome, be it a dollar or more. Note on the check that the donation is for the K9 vest.

Spencer had his first surgery
UPDATE: In May, Spencer joined his forever family and is now enjoying a wonderful home life!!!

As you can see from the pictures, Spencer is now at home recovering from his first surgery. The surgeon fixed the worst of the damaged legs first. Spencer will have to recuperate for six weeks before having the other leg repaired. Poor guy has 12 weeks of recovery ahead of him.

Spencer's after-care is going to require more money for things like cast changes. I hope you can donate a few dollars for his care. Hopefully when this is all over, he will be out playing like a normal young pup. His foster mom, Donna has done a great job so far in taking care of him.

Let's help Spencer!

Five month old Spencer was found as a stray in March, 2008. While waiting to be adopted into a loving home, both rear legs were broken around the ankles. The injury happened after the shelter staff had gone home for the evening. Spencer’s legs went through the bottom of the divider, leaving him stuck and injured until staff freed him the following morning.

The extent of his injuries was not apparent at first. Sheltered Paws took Spencer into foster care but soon realized his injuries were more serious than anyone guessed. Spencer needed an orthopedic specialist to perform surgery on both legs! His sweet nature and zest for life in spite of the daily pain he suffered, won over all of our hearts and we were determined to give him a second chance at a healthy, happy, pain free life.

We needed to raise several thousand dollars and quickly to get that first surgery scheduled! So his foster mom Donna started a fundraiser by making and selling beaded bracelets. Spencer’s story spread and we were very touched by the outpouring of generosity from everyone wanting to help Spencer.

Due to your generosity, we were soon able to schedule surgery on the first leg which happened on October 17, 2008. Spencer is now recovering well despite his awkward cast. He doesn’t quite understand the nature of his injury but as always, Spencer remains happy and sweet through his recovery period.

His second surgery will be scheduled for mid-December and Spencer will then be on the road to a full recovery. It will be a very special day for all of us when Spencer is able to run and play with his foster sisters.

Dogs like Spencer are the reason Sheltered Paws Dog Rescue exists. We try to help the neediest of the dogs at the shelter. The ones that really need that second chance for a good life. It is with everyone’s help that we can do that.

If you like, you can make a donation for his care by sending a check by mail to:

Meet Dingo the Dog

Dog lovers Tracy and Bascom Bradshaw had trouble finding volunteering opportunities while stationed abroad, so they created Dingo the Dog ...a fictional story about a real dog. Follow Dingo’s adventures while he educates children (and adults) about responsible pet care and pet adoption. Proceeds from merchandise and books sold to people in the Cincinnati area will benefit the Sheltered Paws Dog Rescue! A young man shares his birthday with Sheltered Paws Dog Rescue!!!

Max wanted to do something special for his birthday. He decided to donate his birthday money to Sheltered Paws Dog Rescue. He also brought along a large toy which Gracie Mae thought was a great chew toy. What a generous act for such a young man.

In the first picture he is holding Yuki, one of our dogs in foster care. In the second picture, He is joined by his sister, Kathryn and Erin a foster mom with two of her foster dogs; Faith and Gracie Mae.

Thank you Max for thinking of the dogs with your donation. That is one wonderful birthday present from the heart!!!

Sheltered Paws is asking for donations so that we can provide some doggie day care for an energetic foster dog. Each day care visit costs $7.50. A donation of any amount will be a big help. We are also providing assistance for dogs that have tested positive for heartworm. So far, we have been able to help four dogs.
